Samsung washer error codes explained for Dallas TX repair

Samsung washers are among the most popular in DFW homes, prized for their large capacity, smart features, and modern design. But when something goes wrong, Samsung’s error code system can be confusing. The codes use letter and number combinations that aren’t intuitive, and Samsung’s documentation doesn’t always explain them in practical terms. After servicing hundreds of Samsung washers across Dallas–Fort Worth, we’ve compiled this comprehensive guide to every common Samsung washer error code, what it actually means, and what the repair costs.

How Samsung washer error codes work

Samsung washers display error codes on the LED or digital display panel. Some codes appear immediately when a problem is detected; others appear only at the end of a cycle when the washer fails to complete a phase. On older Samsung top-load models, codes are displayed as blinking light patterns rather than alphanumeric codes. Most Samsung error codes can be temporarily cleared by unplugging the washer for 5 minutes, but if the underlying problem persists, the code will return.

UE / Ub: unbalanced load

The UE or Ub code is the most common Samsung washer error we see in DFW. In many cases, it’s not a malfunction at all — items have shifted to one side of the drum, and the washer’s vibration sensor prevents it from spinning to protect the machine. Redistributing the load and restarting the cycle usually resolves it. However, if the UE code appears frequently on normally sized loads, the shock absorbers or suspension springs may be worn. This is more common in washers installed on uneven DFW garage slabs and in machines over 6 years old with heavy regular use.

nd / 5E: drain errors

Drain errors are the second most common Samsung washer issue in our DFW service data. The washer attempted to drain but couldn’t remove water within the expected time. The first thing to check is the debris filter (coin trap) — Samsung front-load washers have a small access panel at the bottom front of the machine. Open it, place a towel underneath, and unscrew the filter. It’s common to find coins, hair ties, pet hair, and small fabric items clogging the filter.

If the filter is clean, the drain pump itself may have failed. Samsung drain pumps typically last 6–10 years. In DFW, hard water deposits on the pump impeller can reduce its life. Also check the drain hose for kinks and make sure the standpipe connection isn’t clogged.

dC / dE: door errors

Door error codes mean the washer can’t confirm that the door is closed and locked. On Samsung front-loaders, the door lock assembly (also called the door latch or interlock switch) is an electromechanical device that physically locks the door and sends a confirmation signal to the control board. When it fails, the washer either won’t start or will stop mid-cycle. Before scheduling repair, try closing the door firmly and checking for any obstruction (clothing caught in the gasket) preventing full closure.

4E / 4C: water fill errors

A 4E error means the washer didn’t detect water entering the tub within the expected time. In DFW, the most common cause is clogged inlet hose screens. Hard water deposits build up on the small mesh screens at the back of the washer where the water hoses connect. Turning off the water supply, disconnecting the hoses, and cleaning the screens with an old toothbrush resolves the issue about 60% of the time. If the screens are clear, the water inlet valve may need replacement.

DFW hard water tip: Clean Samsung washer inlet hose screens every 6 months to prevent 4E fill errors. In cities with very hard water (Allen, Frisco, McKinney), clean them every 4 months. This 10-minute maintenance task can prevent a $235 valve replacement.

3E: motor errors

Motor errors are among the more serious Samsung washer codes. The 3E code indicates the control board can’t detect the motor spinning or the motor isn’t reaching the expected speed. The most common cause is a failed motor hall sensor (a small sensor that reports motor speed to the control board). The sensor itself is an inexpensive part ($25–45), but accessing it requires removing the back panel and motor assembly. In some cases, the motor itself has failed, which is a more costly repair ($280–$380).

Samsung washer maintenance for DFW

  • Run a Self Clean cycle monthly. Samsung washers have a dedicated Self Clean cycle that runs hot water through the system to prevent mold and odor. In DFW’s humid summers, this is especially important for front-load models.
  • Clean the debris filter (coin trap) every 1–2 months. This prevents drain errors and protects the drain pump.
  • Leave the door open after each cycle to dry the interior. This prevents the musty smell that plagues front-loaders.
  • Clean the door gasket (rubber seal) monthly with a vinegar solution. Mold and detergent residue accumulate in the gasket folds.
  • Clean inlet hose screens every 4–6 months to prevent hard water buildup.
  • Don’t overload the drum. Samsung’s large-capacity models tempt users to overfill, which triggers UE errors and strains the motor and shock absorbers.

Samsung washer repair costs in Dallas

Samsung washer repairs in DFW typically cost $135–$420. The median repair is around $230, which is slightly above average due to Samsung’s use of some proprietary electronic components. Door latch and drain pump repairs are on the lower end ($135–$280), while motor and control board repairs are on the higher end ($185–$420). Our $90 diagnostic visit is waived with repair, and all Samsung washer repairs carry our 90-day warranty.
