Same-day dryer repair across DFW

A dryer that runs three cycles to dry one load of towels is almost always telling you something about the vent, not the machine. When it is actually the dryer — a bad heating element, a weak gas igniter, a blown thermal fuse, a worn drum roller — we stock the common parts on the truck for Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, LG, and Samsung, and we can usually finish gas and electric jobs in a single visit.

Why dryers fail in DFW

Long attic vent runs are the defining DFW dryer problem. In Flower Mound, Keller, and McKinney we routinely see 25–30 feet of flex hose with two 90° bends buried in insulation, packed solid with lint by year three. Older east Dallas and Garland stock swings the other way: crushed periscope vents behind stacked units in tight utility rooms. Either way the airflow chokes, the thermal fuse trips first, the heating element cooks next, and eventually the drum bearing seizes. Gas igniters weaken slowly enough that most owners think the dryer is just slow — until it stops heating entirely.

When to call a technician

Call if the dryer runs but the drum is cold, if drying times doubled without warning, or if you notice a burning or smoky smell — that last one, do not run another load. A $30 video walk-through of the lint housing and outdoor vent hood is a fast way to rule airflow in or out. From there the $90 in-home puts a tech in front of fuses, thermistors, igniter coils, and elements the same day.

Safe DIY vs. leave it to us

Clean the lint screen every load, pull the screen holder and vacuum the housing every couple of months, and step outside to confirm the vent flap opens when the dryer runs. Beyond that — heating elements, gas valves, thermal fuses, 240V wiring — is where DIY becomes a house-fire conversation, not a savings one.

Dryer Not Heating
Electric dryers most often blow the thermal fuse — a one-time safety cutoff near the exhaust duct — because a clogged vent overheated the machine. Gas dryers typically fail at the igniter (glows red but won't open the gas valve) or the gas valve solenoid coils. We carry both parts on the truck and clean the vent so the thermal fuse doesn't blow again next week.
Dryer Squeaking
Squeaking comes from one of four friction points: drum support rollers worn flat (most common), the idler pulley bearing seized, the felt drum seal fraying against the front or rear panel, or a loose blower wheel rattling at speed. Catching it early costs $80–150; ignoring it seizes the drum bearing and costs 3× more.
Dryer Won't Start
Most overlooked cause: a dryer needs its own 240 V circuit, and if one leg trips, the display stays lit but the motor is dead. Reset the breaker fully before calling. If power is confirmed, the door switch is next — the light works but the contact is open so the interlock never releases. A blown thermal fuse is third and must be replaced (not reset).
Dryer Taking Too Long to Dry
A clogged dryer vent is the cause roughly 70% of the time — restricted exhaust makes the thermostat cycle the heater off before the load is dry. Squeeze the exhaust hose behind the dryer; if it feels stiff or doesn't flex, the duct is blocked at the wall cap. Fabric softener residue on the moisture sensor bars also causes false early shutoff. Long dry times are a lint-fire warning — don't delay.
